Canada’s TNR Gold Corp is investing heavily in lithium products. Historically a gold exploration and development company, TNR Gold has started a few projects focused on lithium. As lithium and other rare metals become more valuable, TNR Gold uses it’s exploration expertise to locate lithium deposits around the globe. Currently TNR Gold has lithium projects in development in Argentina, Ireland and the US. In Argentina they have acquired a the exploration rights to a salt lake area called the Mariana project. This district contains various salt lakes that are now tested for the presence of lithium. It is expected that the Mariana project will turn out to contain large amounts of lithium carbonate. In Nevada, TNR Gold holds the rights to tested lithium brine deposits. The assets in Ireland are minerals mines past production which may contain lithium.
Stock of TNR Gold is traded on the Canadian TSX. The one year growth rate saw a decline of around 50% in January 2011. This is no suprise as many lithium oriented stocks saw a downfall in 2010 due to the global economic crisis. Experts believe 2011 will see a steady rise for lithium stocks as markets improve and economic growth returns. And TNR Gold was on the rise because of their lithium projects as the two year growth rate is up 90%. Further explorations of the major sites will show if TNR Gold has potential sites for commercial production of lithium.
